Bible Mapper Maps Respository

Use this page to add Bible Mapper maps that you are willing to share with others. A good example of the kind of maps you can make and share is the Gilboa one that comes with the program (or did in earlier versions, at least) that you can find in the "terrain" directory. You can also post ".mat" template files such as the one for Tribal Allotments that comes with the program. in the "templates" directory.

  • When you upload the document, also indicate its size. Unless you specify another directory, the ".map" files you save in Bible Mapper are probably located under your C:\Program Files\BarrettWare\Bible Mapper 3\terrain directory. Do not upload JPG files directly here, or they will show up as the pictures. Either rename the extension (e.g., use *.jpgbm) or zip together multiple JPGs.
  • Provide a brief description of the files you upload. If there is anything that is likely a matter of contention (e.g., the route of the Exodus), please include some indication of such in your description.
  • Identify what permissions with the maps you are granting others

To see some great examples of what can be done with Bible Mapper, check out the maps available at BibleAtlas.org.

I downloaded the blank map, but can't figure out how to modify or add towns, etc., Also, how does one save a map for future reference or copying into a work? Is a license available to buy, is one required? Thanks Don

Hi, Don. If I recall correctly, you do need the license to be able to save the map. You need to make the request to David Barrett. (Cf. the directions on the download page here: http://www.biblemapper.com/download_2.htm )
To get items on the map, first use the Show/Hide menu (CTRL-R or the eyeball icon). Select which things you want to display.
Then to filter stuff in/out, click on the Display icon (or CTRL-D) and check on/off the details you want.

How interesting that Don downloaded a blank map but when I downloaded it was COVERED with all place/river/ etc names! I've figured out how to delate everything and creat my own blank map and saved it as a template. But my question is, how do I get the ZOOM OUT icon to work? It will zoom out once and then when I click it again it reverts back to where it was.
What is the fram feature for?

Cick the eyeball icon or CTRL-R and see the list for HIDE/SHOW. take everyting off the list on the left that you don't want [highlight and then click HIDE; it moves to the right column after a brief delay. when you're down press OK, and your map takes off the HIDE items.

Can anyone tell me why the map is out of focus just north of Hazeroth? on both sides of Aqaba? There is a straight line easily seen at 50%.

Hi, Don. The map isn't really out of focus. It's a matter of the terrain tiles data that is available. If you use the menu: File > Autoload Terrain Tiles, you will see that the 15m data is only available for Israel. Those tiles go as far south as that horizontal line you note. If you load up the BlueMarble data, you will get a little better picture. Play around with the tiles, but it will take some time (and sometimes a long time) for the data to download. You can then turn tiles on/off via View > Terrain Tiles.
